LPI Summer Intern Program in Planetary Science Application Process
To apply for the LPI Summer Intern Program in Planetary Science, follow these steps:
- Online Application:
- Use the online application form; paper applications are not accepted.
- Complete all questions on the form, including essay-style questions.
- Upon submission, you'll receive a confirmation email with your application number and a link to check the status of your reference letters.
- Reference Letters and Transcripts:
- Submit at least two reference letters (maximum of 3).
- Submit official transcripts.
- Transcripts and letters can be submitted independently but must be received by December 12, 2023, and must be in English.
- Acceptable formats: hard copy sent to the provided address or electronic transcripts emailed to [email protected].
- English Proficiency (For Foreign Nationals):
- If you are a foreign national, provide proof of English proficiency through:
- Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score.
- A letter from an English department professor confirming sufficient language skills.
- Program Overview:
- Open to undergraduates with at least 50 semester hours of credit.
- Prefer majors in physical/natural science, engineering, computer science, or mathematics.
- The 10-week program runs from June 3–August 9, 2024.
- Selection Process:
- Selections based on academic experience, scientific interests, and project requirements.
- Notification to selected participants in March 2024.

- Eligibility:
- Undergraduates with at least 50 semester hours of credit.

- Important Dates:
- December 12, 2023: Application deadline.
- March 2024: Notification of selections.
- June 3, 2024: Program begins.
- August 9, 2024: Program ends.
- Financial Support:
- Selected interns receive up to $8,056 covering stipend, travel, housing, and living expenses.
- Additional stipend of up to $1,000 for eligible interns who submit an accepted abstract as the first author to the Lunar and Planetary Science Conference.
